Cine en español

In order to count the Cine en español as a cultural activity, you must fill out the "Cuestionario" that will be handed out at the movie and turn it in to your instructor in order to receive credit.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Seating is limited. So sign-up early!  But, please remember to be courteous to professors and students that are in classes scheduled just prior to the movies.  Wait outside until they are done and have exited before entering to find your seat.  ¡MUCHAS GRACIAS!

Most movies are in Spanish with English subtitles.

Please read the synopsis (if it is available) or watch the trailer (if available) for upcoming movies below.  Note that many of these movies are Rated R for mature audiences and may contain violence, profanity and/or sexual scenes.  Please do your research before attending. We try to provide as much information as possible beforehand.

UNDER THE SAME MOON (LA MISMA LUNA) tells the parallel stories of nine-year-old Carlitos and his mother, Rosario. In the hopes of providing a better life for her son, Rosario works illegally in the U.S. while her mother cares for Carlitos back in Mexico. Unexpected circumstances drive both Rosario and Carlitos to embark on their own journeys in a desperate attempt to reunite. Along the way, mother and son face challenges and obstacles but never lose hope that they will one day be together again.

​Bless Me, Ultima
 is a 2013 drama directed by Carl Franklin and starring Luke Ganalon and Míriam Colón. It is an adaptation of the 1972 novel of the same name by Rudolfo Anaya.

A drama set in New Mexico during World War II, centered on the relationship between a young man and an elderly medicine woman who helps him contend with the battle between good and evil that rages in his village.



All students may participate in the online movies available below. Check out the movies and the worksheet as potential activities to include in your 3Cs section/Portfolio of the course.
If you are an online student that is not able to participate in our Noche de cine activities on campus in Las Cruces, please see the following section.  We are offering the opportunity for you to view movies in Spanish with English subtitles.  BEFORE you do so, please contact your instructor for permission to participate in this activity.  Please download the worksheet to use while you are watching the movie, then submit the completed worksheet to your instructor via you Canvas course.  You may only use the movies referenced here.  Please note that the movies will change each semester, so you MAY NOT use the same movie for different semesters.

Matando cabos

Matando Cabos (Killing Cabos) is a 2004 Mexican film directed by Alejandro Lozano in close partnership with long-time friend Tony Dalton. The film was one of the most highly anticipated Mexican movies of all time, mainly due to its high budget and the amount of money put into the action scenes such as the car chase through the Estadio Azteca.

El laberinto del fauno (Pan's Labyrinth in English) won numerous international awards, including three Academy Awards, three BAFTA Awardsincluding Best Film Not in the English Language, the Ariel Award for Best Picture, the Saturn Awards for Best International Film and Best Performance by a Younger Actor for Ivana Baquero and the 2007 Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation, Long Form.

Mar adentro

Mar adentro (The Sea Inside) is a 2004 Spanish film written, produced, directed and scored by Alejandro Amenábar. It is based on the real-life story of Ramón Sampedro (played by Javier Bardem), who was left quadriplegic after a diving accident, and his 28-year campaign in support of euthanasia and the right to end his life.  It won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Film.
