Películas en español

Watching movies and television in Spanish is a great way to get used to hearing the sounds of Spanish, this all helps with improving your listening comprehension and understanding. These activities will also allow you to observe authentic culture and language.  The movies included here are readily available on popular streaming sources and sometimes even YouTube. Each movie will have a cuestionario that accompanies it, and there will be a version in English and in Spanish. Please read the synopsis and/or watch the trailer (if available). We try to select movies that are PG and PG-13. Make sure and look into it before doing the activity.
La misma luna (Under the Same Moon) - 2007

The movie tells the parallel stories of nine-year-old Carlitos and his mother, Rosario. In the hopes of providing a better life for her son, Rosario works illegally in the U.S. while her mother cares for Carlitos back in Mexico. Unexpected circumstances drive both Rosario and Carlitos to embark on their own journeys in a desperate attempt to reunite. We can also learn a lot about the cultures of Spanish-speaking communities from watching movies in English. This movie celebrates the beliefs and customs of el Día de los muertos, a festival celebrated in many countries, but particularly in Mexico. It is a colorful holiday with many links the past.
