Best Practices for Completing Assignments

In Spanish 111, 112, 211, and 212 we will be using Duolingo a lot for the online meetings in our course.  You will need to following the instructions your instructor gives you so you can get going RIGHT AWAY. Don’t hesitate in gaining access to this valuable tool and other recommendations both from your program and instructor.

Some Great Recommendations for Completing ALL Assignments in this course.

There are several activities assigned for each chapter.  You are required to complete ONLY the assignments that are assigned, but it is always a good idea to complete extra work for additional practice.

As you may already know, completing all assignments, but especially online assignments ,requires a great deal of self discipline.  There is not an instructor over your shoulder making sure that everything is done.  So, we recommend completing a few of the online assignments at a time, rather than waiting until the last minute. The phrase "un poco todos los días" (a little bit everyday) is key. Please do not procrastinate your work

Here are some VERY WISE words on what to do and what not to do.  Please feel free to try whichever suits your style.

NOT GOOD: Complete the all homework and exercises the night before they are due.  Plan on a long night!!  ☺

GOOD: Complete all the activities within a day or two of them being due.  Plan on a couple of longish nights!!

BETTER:  Work on the online activities on the days you don't have actual class meetings – that means doing a little over 10 activities on each of those online days.  This is very doable, but may take a little more than an hour to complete. For online classes only, this means setting a regular schedule to do this.

BEST: Work on a few activities every day – and if you do this – only on weekdays (feel free to work on weekends as well, that would only reduce the number of activities per day) – you will only need to do a few activities each day.  Spending just 30 minutes to an hour, depending on the activity, makes a big difference.  Then, the last few days before a test or quiz, you can review the ones that may have given you some trouble.

Please remember that your class will not wait for students to catch up, you need to be responsible enough to do your part.
